A Nigerian lady has stirred widespread debate on social media after revealing that she blocked a man who invited her on a date because he suggested they split the bill.

In a TikTok video, the lady explained that they had been talking for about a month before the man finally asked her out. According to her, she agreed to the date and even recommended a nice restaurant.

However, she said she was surprised when the man asked how she felt about going on a Dutch date, where each person pays for their own meal.

Reacting to the suggestion, she said:

“I was on my own. You insisted on us going for a date, and all of a sudden you’re introducing Dutch dates. If I wanted to go out and spend my money, I wouldn’t need a random man to take me out. I would simply settle myself.”

She added that she felt there was no point preparing for the outing only to pay for herself.

“I’ll leave my house, prepare, do my hair, lashes and everything, then you’ll tell me you want a Dutch date? If you cannot sort the bill on a first date, what exactly are you bringing to the table?”

The lady said she appreciated that the man raised the issue before the date rather than after the meal.

“Thank God he asked before the date because I blocked and deleted his number immediately,” she concluded.

Her remarks have since generated mixed reactions online, with some supporting her decision while others argued that splitting the bill on a first date is a reasonable expectation.
