Suspected gunmen stormed a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) parish in Uso, Owo Local Government Area, in the early hours of Wednesday, abducting six worshippers during a midnight vigil.
The attack occurred around 12:50 a.m. along the busy Uso-Owo Expressway, with armed assailants disrupting the service before forcibly taking the victims to an unknown location.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the abduction, saying security forces including police, the Nigerian Army, and local vigilante groups have been deployed to locate the victims and apprehend the attackers.
So far, one of the abducted worshippers has been rescued, and one suspect has been arrested and is being interrogated.
No fatalities were reported.
This abduction comes just four days after gunmen kidnapped a couple in Ilu-Abo community, Akure North LGA, amid a rising wave of attacks targeting vulnerable communities and highways.
Authorities continue to coordinate rescue operations for the remaining victims as investigations unfold.
