Gunmen kidnapped Francis Igwe, the father of Dr Kelechi Igwe, the former Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State.

Igwe, the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike in Ebonyi State’s Ikwo Local Government Area, was kidnapped on Sunday morning, March 1, 2026, while on his way to church.

According to community sources, Igwe was driving when he was stopped by armed men on motorcycles.

The assailants allegedly duped him, forced him out of his car, and took him away on a motorcycle to an unknown location. 

The Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Sunday Nwankwo, confirmed the incident and stated that the council was working with security agencies to gather information that would lead to his rescue.
