“Give us the N4m, we’ll pay you back” – Brothers call younger sibling ‘selfish’ for wanting to buy family land

A Nigerian man has posted about a family feud on social media after his friend allegedly offered to buy a plot of family land to assist cover his late father’s burial.

The individual, named on X as @AnyanwuMalachy, revealed that his friend’s family had allocated ₦8 million for the burial, part of which was expected to come from selling family land.

According to @AnyanwuMalachy, the deceased’s three sons agreed to donate ₦1 million apiece, while his two daughters would contribute ₦500,000 each, totalling ₦4 million.

He wrote:

“My guy’s dad died and the family budgeted #8m for the burial.

“The 3 sons will contribute #1m each, while the 2 daughters will contribute #500k each, making #4m.

“The remaining #4m will come from selling family land.”

After the man’s friend offered to purchase the family land himself and supply the final ₦4 million required for the burial, the situation reportedly grew tense.

He was accused of being callous and self-centred when his older brothers allegedly turned down the offer and begged him to lend them the money instead.

“My guy has offered to buy the family land himself and provide the #4m, but his elder brothers are angry.

“Their argument? ‘You have the money. Why sell family land? Give us the #4m, and after the burial, we’ll raise it, and pay you back.’”

He added:

“He insists business should remain business and wants the land transferred to him.

“Now they’re saying he’s selfish and insensitive.

“Should he lend his family the #4m and wait for repayment, or stand his ground and buy the land?”
