Former Big Brother Naija housemate Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has advised the organisers of the reality television show to consider taking a break, rethink their strategy and introduce fresh ideas to attract viewers.
Tacha made the suggestion during an interview where she discussed the growing influence of social media on entertainment and how it has changed audience expectations.
According to the reality star, social media trends and online controversies now compete with television programmes for public attention, making it necessary for the BBNaija organisers to reconsider the show’s format.
“I think they need to take a break, restrategise and just come up with something because we are really at an era where everything happens on social media,” she said.
Tacha Cites P-Square Family Dispute
Explaining her position, Tacha pointed to the public attention surrounding the family dispute involving Nigerian music duo P-Square.
She argued that controversies playing out on social media can sometimes generate more interest than events inside the BBNaija house.
“You don’t want us watching housemates in the house, meanwhile P-Square is giving us part seven of his family issues… we have come to a point where everyone is so comfortable with social media right now,” she said.
Tacha suggested that temporarily suspending the show could help build anticipation and give its organisers an opportunity to develop a more engaging format.
Reality Star Calls for More Engaging Content
The former housemate also urged the show’s producers to explore creative ideas that would make future seasons more exciting and appealing to Nigerian audiences.
She stressed that the organisers needed to offer something different to compete effectively in an entertainment landscape increasingly shaped by social media.
“They need to cook, like they need to try to do something different which will be much more mind-blowing and more interesting to Nigerians because Nigerians are hard to please,” she added.
Tacha rose to prominence during the 2019 edition of BBNaija, tagged Pepper Dem, but was disqualified following a physical altercation with fellow housemate Mercy Eke.
Her latest comments have reignited conversations about the future of the reality show and whether its organisers need to make significant changes to sustain viewers’ interest.
As social media continues to influence entertainment consumption, Tacha’s remarks highlight the challenge facing reality television producers as they seek to remain relevant in an increasingly competitive digital environment.
