FIFA is reportedly preparing a major compensation package for football clubs whose players will participate in the 2026 World Cup.
According to Melchor Ruiz of El Partidazo de COPE, clubs could receive more than €9,000 per player per day for the duration of the tournament. The payments are expected to cover both parent clubs and those currently hosting players on loan.
The 2026 World Cup, set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will run from June 11 to July 19, lasting 38 days. It will also be the first edition expanded to 48 teams, meaning more players will be away from their clubs for longer periods.
The proposed compensation plan is aimed at addressing concerns from clubs over player fatigue, fixture congestion, and financial losses caused by releasing players for international duty.
If approved, the package would represent one of the most significant club compensation schemes ever introduced by FIFA for a World Cup tournament.
