“Family could not take the risk, mechanic volunteers to deliver ₦30m ransom to kidnappers” — Man shares emotional story

A mechanic in Taraba State reportedly risked his life to deliver a ₦30 million ransom for the release of a kidnapped customer.

According to an internet source, the victim’s abductors initially sought ₦50 million. Despite selling some of his houses and vehicles, the family only raised ₦30 million.

The kidnappers eventually decided to take the decreased sum and requested that the money be sent to Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

They reportedly warned that only one person should bring the ransom and that any mistake could result in the victim’s death.

After obtaining the funds, the family faced a severe task because no member wanted to make the perilous trek.

Even though the victim’s son volunteered, he was deemed too young to accept such a risk.

As the days passed without payment, the kidnappers reportedly threatened to kill the victim.

When the man’s mechanic learnt of the predicament, he offered to deliver the ransom. The event occurred during Nigeria’s cashless regime, when the kidnappers demanded payment in Cameroonian currency.

The mechanic travelled to Karim Lamido and then hiked for about two hours after commercial motorbike operators apparently refused to transport him to the spot specified by the abductors.

According to the allegation, armed guys eventually apprehended the mechanic and carried him farther into a forested region where the ransom was confirmed.

The victim was not present at the scene, but the kidnappers promised the technician that he would be released once the money was validated.

After the ransom was paid, the abductors freed the victim in Gombe State, returned his phone, and let him to communicate with his family.

The mechanic later discovered that the kidnappers had purposefully led him down a long road while giving the money, only to disclose a considerably shorter way back to town that took less than ten minutes.

The story sparked significant discussion, especially after it was revealed that the mechanic’s wife was heavily pregnant at the time.

Many social media users praised his acts as an incredible display of loyalty and courage, while others emphasised the dangers posed by communities plagued by kidnapping across Nigeria.
