First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s recent comments that the federal government is under too much strain and that young Nigerians should support the government have drawn criticism from Nigerian rapper Falz.

In an interview with Arise TV, Falz made the case that elected officials consciously accepted the obligations that come with holding public office.

Additionally, he questioned the government’s spending priorities, claiming that while millions of Nigerians are still affected by insecurity and other urgent national issues, public funds seem to be going into luxury items.

The performer went on to discuss President Bola Tinubu’s campaign slogan, “E Mi L’okan” (“It’s my turn”), calling it one of the most ridiculous political claims he had ever heard.

Falz argues that anyone who ran for government with such assurance shouldn’t later lament the demands of governance.

“What do you mean, pressure on the government? Did anyone beg you to take up this work?

If I remember clearly, the campaign slogan for this current administration was ‘Emi lokan.’ Do you know what that translates to in English? It is my turn. I’ve never seen anything more absurd than that in my entire life.

“That means from day one that you set out on your political journey, this is the day you have been waiting for. So how can you come out and say the pressure is on you? Are you okay?”
