FA Cup: Eze inspires Arsenal 4-0 rout of Wigan

Eberechi Eze produced a standout performance as Arsenal defeated Wigan Athletic 4-0 to advance to the FA Cup fifth round. After receiving criticism for his recent drop in form, Eze responded strongly.

The England international controlled the pace from the start and supplied two crucial assists within the first 20 minutes, putting Arsenal on track for a comfortable night.

Eze’s first contribution was in the 11th minute. He saw space behind the defence and slid a precise through pass into the path of Noni Madueke, who scored confidently to open the scoring. Eze followed up on the blueprint eight minutes later.

Another exquisite pass split Wigan’s defence, releasing Gabriel Martinelli, who calmly tapped home his tenth cup goal of the season.

Arsenal’s dominance increased. Bukayo Saka’s driven cross caused an own goal from Jack Hunt, before Gabriel Jesus escaped the offside trap to collect a lofted pass and finish past custodian Sam Tickle on 27 minutes.

The Gunners became the first Premier League team to score four goals in the first 30 minutes of an FA Cup match.

The game was virtually finished before halftime. Although the scoring stopped after the halftime, Eze continued to play an important role in Arsenal’s aggressive play.

He moved between the lines, connecting midfield and attack, and challenged Tickle with a low effort that resulted in a solid stop.

Arsenal’s substitute Viktor Gyokeres hit the post as they kept pressing, but the energy of the first half was no longer needed.
