A Nigerian woman has generated internet debate after explaining why she stopped visiting to church for several years, citing a horrible experience her family had with her pastor brother.

The lady, known as @kenkenlewu on X (previously Twitter), took to her site to tell her story, which has elicited emotional responses from people.

According to her, she stopped attending church because everything about it irritated her after what her family went through.

She explained that her brother, the family’s first son, is a well-known and successful pastor in Edo State who lives a comfortable life.

“I stopped going to church because of my brother. I only returned about two years ago. Back then, everything about church irritated me. My brother, the first son in our family is a well-known and successful pastor in Edo State, living very comfortably.”

According to @kenkenlewu, her brother severed all ties with the family approximately 17 years ago, right after graduating from pastoral school.

She said: “About 17 years ago, immediately after graduating from pastoral school, he cut off from all of us. Whenever we called, he wouldn’t pick.”

She added that their mother tried several times to visit him but was treated badly by his wife.

“My mum went to his place several times to see him, but his wife treated her badly, until we eventually warned our mum to stop going there.”

In spite of the breakdown of ties, the pastor allegedly returned to his parents’ home when he became very ill.

The lady said his wife brought him there and left him behind, and the family took care of him until he healed, which took nearly a year.

She wrote: “At some point, he became seriously ill. His wife brought him to my parents’ house, left him there, and we took care of him until he recovered. It took almost a year.”

However, she said things returned to how they were once he regained his health.

“Immediately he got better, he returned to his place and warned my mum sternly never to come looking for him again.”

The woman revealed that her mother had not seen her son for eight years before she dienced.

She said: “My mum didn’t see him for a full eight years before she passed away.”

She added that on the day her mother died, her brother suddenly showed up with some of his church members.

“The day she died, he showed up with some of his church members, acting like everything was normal.”

During a family gathering, she said her brother apologised, and the elders quickly accepted it.

She wrote: “During the family meeting, he apologised. Surprisingly, the elders accepted it immediately and even begged us to forgive him.”

However, she said the apology did not lead to reconciliation.

“Lol. Right after the burial, we never heard from him again till now.”

The woman concluded by expressing her anguish at her brother’s internet celebration in spite of the way he treated his family.

She said: “But we constantly see him online performing miracles, being celebrated, and praised by people.”
