Sources claim that Newcastle’s manager, Eddie Howe, will leave the team right now.

Howe came under fire last season when Newcastle lost 17 of their 38 games and finished 12th in the Premier League.

Wednesday’s preseason friendly loss to Bristol City, 4-1, was the 48-year-old’s last game in charge.

Despite being aware of the club’s need to sell players, Howe has reportedly been taken aback by the club’s summer transfer dealings, according to reliable sources.

Howe decided to remain at St. James’ Park earlier this year in spite of the unavoidable sales, but during the summer, he changed his mind.

In March, David Hopkinson, the chief executive of Newcastle, said that the team was “not having those conversations” about changing management “at the moment.”

A year ago, Newcastle spent around £240 million on new players, but Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool infuriated Howe.

Arsenal is searching for captain Bruno Guimaraes, and Howe has lost two important players this summer: Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham.

Howe took over as manager from Steve Bruce in November 2021 and won the 2025 Carabao Cup, ending Newcastle’s 70-year domestic title drought.

In 2023 and 2025, he guided Newcastle to qualify for the Champions League.

Newcastle advanced to the Champions League round of 16 last season before falling to Barcelona 8–3 on aggregate.

They finished fifth in the league in 2024–2025, but their EFL Cup defence ended in the semi-finals.

Under Howe, Newcastle played 179 Premier League games, winning 84 of them, drawing 38, and losing 57.

Compared to other Newcastle managers, he oversaw more Premier League wins. His 46.9% Premier League win percentage at the club is only surpassed by Kevin Keegan.
