“Does the Holy Spirit not call pastors to help the youth?” – Lady qestions why Nigerian clergy keep opening churches

A woman has sparked an online controversy by challenging the objectives of pastors in the country, namely why so many continue to open churches rather than companies that directly benefit communities.

Speaking passionately, she questioned the emphasis on expanding church facilities when other societal demands went unfulfilled.

So you pastors, God always call you people to be opening church. After all the churches we have in Nigeria, God is still calling you people to be opening church,” she said.

She contended that the Holy Spirit rarely inspires religious leaders to establish enterprises or projects that empower young and provide vital services.

Holy Spirit and God does not call you people to infrastructure, to open industries to help the youth. It’s only to take from these people that don’t have, to open churches, to open altars,” she added.

The woman pointed out the disparity between religious organisations and fundamental social infrastructure.

All the churches we have in Nigeria is not even half of the schools or half of the hospitals we have, but you people are still opening more churches,” she said.

She concluded with a pointed question on the purpose behind the continued expansion.

What do we want to use these churches to do? Opening branches up and down. Does the Holy Spirit not call pastors to open industries to help the youths, why are they still opening more churches?”

Her remarks have prompted debate on the role of religious leaders in societal development and the balance between spiritual leadership and communal empowerment.
