The publisher of Ovation Magazine and Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has officially rejected viral campaign posters pairing him as a vice-presidential candidate alongside Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 elections.
Describing the graphics as an “unsolicited joke,” Momodu clarified that the images began circulating without his consent and are designed to distract from more pressing political goals.
In a detailed statement shared via his official X account, Momodu urged his supporters and party members to ignore the “deluge” of messages regarding the pairing. While he had previously endorsed Atiku Abubakar for the ADC’s presidential ticket in March, he was firm in stating that his personal days of running for office are over

The rejection of these posters highlights a mechanical shift in Momodu’s role from “Candidate” to “Coalition Architect.” By explicitly stating, “I’m not running for any race again,” Momodu is removing himself as a variable in the 2027 power struggle to act as a neutral facilitator for opposition unity.
This move is a mechanical necessity for Coalition-Building; a leader who is not seeking personal office often carries more weight in negotiating alliances between competing parties.
Momodu’s focus is now squarely on ousting the current APC government, which he described as “incompetent” and responsible for throwing Nigerian democracy into “apparent chaos”.
Furthermore, Momodu’s statement reinforces Institutional Humility within the ADC. By claiming there are “more than enough leaders” in his party, more competent than himself, he is signaling a move toward collective leadership rather than personality-driven politics.
This clarification serves as a “Narrative Correction” to prevent the spread of fake rumors that could prematurely fracture opposition alliances before a formal candidate has emerged.
