Singer Davido was allegedly the target of an attack on Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s vehicle on Wednesday, August 19, according to the Osun State Police Command.
Shortly after receiving his certificate of return from INEC, Adeleke visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo on Wednesday afternoon when security guards assigned to the governor allegedly engaged in a gunfight with unidentified men.
When the incident happened, Davido and the governor’s kids were reportedly in the convoy. After unidentified gunmen apparently started firing at the caravan intermittently, chaos broke out.
The Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the event and stated that an initial inquiry revealed that Davido was being pursued by members of the Eye Confraternity.

“One Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as ‘Small Rugged’, an ex convict, a suspected notorious thug and a member of eye confraternity allegedly attempted to gain access to Davido but was resisted by members of his security Team,”
According to Ojelabi, additional suspected gang members in the vicinity were drawn to the altercation and allegedly blocked the governor’s motorcade and the palace gate.
He said that after leaving the location, the suspected gang members reportedly shot Tajudeen Yusuf, a 60-year-old man, in the Itaolokan neighbourhood of Osogbo.
“Upon receiving the information, the police immediately mobilised a patrol team to the scene, where the victim was found lying in a pool of blood. He was promptly rushed to the University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, for medical attention. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead by the doctors on duty,” it added.
According to the police spokeswoman, the command has started a comprehensive investigation and stepped up attempts to locate and capture the escaping offenders.
The event occurred soon after the Osun State governorship election, in which Davido vigorously supported his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, who won and was granted a second term.
