Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers were attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State ahead of the state’s governorship election.

The singer made the claim in a post on his verified X account in the early hours of Saturday, sparking reactions from social media users.

Davido, who is the nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively supporting his uncle’s re-election campaign under the Accord Party.

In his post, the singer said he had been informed that soldiers were trying to stop him from entering the state, insisting that every Nigerian citizen has the constitutional right to move freely.

His allegation came amid movement restrictions announced by the Nigeria Police Force as part of security arrangements for the election. Authorities had restricted movement across Osun State from midnight on Friday until 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The election features Governor Adeleke and several other contenders, including Bola Oyebamiji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting to Davido’s claim, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad described the singer’s reaction as “dramatic,” noting that the movement restriction had already been announced as a general security measure for the election.

Davido’s allegation has since generated mixed reactions online, with some users suggesting that the reported encounter could be linked to the statewide movement restriction, while others questioned whether the singer was being singled out.
