Omoyele Sowore, an activist and former presidential candidate, will have to wait until June 30 to find out his fate after a Federal High Court in Abuja set the date for a hearing on his appeal to reinstate his bail.
The court, presided over by Justice Mohammed Umar, delayed the case on Wednesday after both the defence and prosecution adopted their respective processes in the motion.
Sowore is asking the court to reinstate his bail and set aside the bench warrant issued against him after he failed to appear in court for his trial on cybercrime and criminal defamation charges.
The Department of State Services (DSS) is prosecuting the activist on charges that he called President Bola Tinubu a “criminal” in posts on his X and Facebook profiles.
Sowore has pleaded not guilty to the accusations.
On June 16, the judge revoked his bail and issued an arrest warrant. On Monday, it ordered him to be held at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the outcome of his motion to challenge the bail revocation.
The development has continued to draw attention from fans and political analysts, many of whom are waiting for the court’s decision.
With a verdict set for June 30, the court’s attention remains focused as Sowore continues his legal battle from captivity.
