Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a couple and a teenager over the alleged physical abu$e of a 10-year-old boy in the Odume Layout area of Isiowulu.

The arrests followed public outrage after a video circulated on social media on Sunday, June 14, showing the child with multiple injuries. The footage captured concerned residents raising the alarm and rescuing the boy, while some community members were also seen confronting the suspects before police intervention.

In a statement issued on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer Tochukwu Ikenga identified the suspects as Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40, Chisom Chukwuyere, 30, and 16-year-old Arum Goodluck.

According to the police, Chisom Chukwuyere allegedly admitted during questioning that she melted plastic and applied it to the victim’s body, resulting in severe burns.

SP Ikenga said the child has been placed under protective care and is receiving medical treatment as well as psychosocial support. He added that investigators are gathering evidence to facilitate the prosecution of the suspects.
