Chelsea is in advanced talks to recruit Danny Welbeck, a striker for Brighton & Hove Albion, in an effort to bolster their roster with experience before the start of the new campaign.

According to reports, the 35-year-old is amenable to moving to Stamford Bridge and is increasingly hopeful that a deal can be made.

After co-owner Behdad Eghbali acknowledged earlier this year that the club’s transfer strategy of concentrating on young players required a “tweak,” Chelsea is attempting to balance their youthful roster.

After an outstanding season with Brighton, where he scored a career-high 13 Premier League goals in 37 games, Welbeck has become a top target.

Since joining Brighton from Watford in 2020, the former England international has scored 51 goals in 201 games.

Regarding the transfer rumours, Brighton has declined to comment.

The striker will remain at the Amex Stadium till the conclusion of the 2026–2027 campaign after signing a one-year contract extension in March.

Welbeck’s possible arrival coincides with the uncertainty surrounding a number of Chelsea forwards.

Marc Guiu is available for either a permanent transfer or a loan move, but Joao Pedro is considered the team’s top striker.
