BREAKING: Sevilla sack Akor Adams head coach Almeyda after poor run of form

Sevilla has formally fired head coach Matias Almeyda after a string of bad results, the club announced in an official statement.

The decision comes following a 2-0 home loss to Valencia, which dropped Sevilla to 15th place in La Liga, just three points above the relegation zone with nine games remaining.

Sevilla confirm the decision.
Matías Almeyda, the head coach of Sevilla FC’s first team, has been relieved, according to a statement made on Monday.

“The club want to thank Matias Almeyda and his team for his efforts and professionalism and wish him the best for the future.”

Almeyda, Akor Adams’ manager, leaves after managing 32 matches across all competitions since his hiring last summer, including 29 in La Liga and three in the Copa del Rey.

Almeyda’s problems and suspension
The Argentine coach had a bright start to his career after joining from AEK Athens, but results dipped dramatically in the second half of the season.

His condition was exacerbated by a seven-game suspension for a disagreement with a match official, which kept him away from the pitch since mid-February.

Sevilla’s decline in form has raised pressure on the club, with relegation fears now playing a significant role in the decision to make a managerial change.

The team is expected to move fast to find a replacement as they attempt to stabilise their season and secure top-flight survival.
