BREAKING: Plateau State Governor Mutfwang officially resigns from PDP

A major change in the political landscape of the state has occurred with the official resignation of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The resignation was sent to Dasjak Sunday Longyol, the PDP Chairman of Ampang West Ward, in a letter dated December 29, 2025.

According to the letter, which was received in Jos on Thursday, the governor made the decision to look for a different political platform in order to better serve Plateau State.

Mutfwang thanked the PDP for providing him with the chance to further his political career and take part in Nigeria’s democratic process.

He claimed that his choice was motivated by a desire for better service delivery to the public, more direction, and purposeful leadership.

The personally signed letter read, “I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect.”

“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process.”

“I appreciate the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.”

“Given the realities of the moment, and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform.”

“Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

The governor’s chosen political party was not mentioned in the letter.

The resignation comes after months of political rumours that Mutfwang had joined the All Progressives Congress.

According to reports, members of the APC National Working Committee congratulated the governor and promised to back his new political trajectory.
