Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, and his wife were kidnapped by suspected armed bandits in Katsina State, northwestern Nigeria.

The event occurred on Saturday along Katsina’s Matazu axis, as the retired senior officer was travelling with his wife. Armed gunmen stopped their vehicle and took them away.

A security source informed Sahara Reporters that the vehicle’s driver was also attacked but managed to flee despite receiving a bullet wound.

According to accounts, the retired general’s vehicle, a red Peugeot 504, was later discovered and transferred to the Matazu Divisional Police Headquarters.

An informal security communication sent among military contacts, supposedly shared by retired Brigadier General Sagir Musa, verified the officer and his wife’s abduction and asked authorities to act promptly.

As of the publication of this news, neither the Katsina State Police Command nor the military has issued an official statement regarding the incident.
