The Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been treated for early-stage prostate cancer and confirmed a malignant tumour had been removed in an update on social media.

The Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu has said he is in “excellent physical condition” as details about his cancer diagnosis emerged.

In a post on X today (Friday), Netanyahu revealed he had been diagnosed with a malignant tumour after successful surgery for an enlarged benign prostate prostate but it had been “removed”.

He said treatment had “removed the problem and left no trace of it”.

The 76-year-old Prime Minister said medics flagged an early-stage malignant tumour during a routine medical assessment but delayed the publication of the report.

Netanyahu said he requested to halt publication of his health record amid the ongoing conflict with Iran as he wanted to prevent Tehran from spreading “even more false propaganda against Israel”. Israel joined forces with the US to attack Tehran on February 28.

He revealed the initial surgery was to treat an enlarged benign prostate around 18 months ago and has been under close medical monitoring ever since. Netanyahu said a “tiny spot of less than a centimetre” was then discovered in the recent assessment.

“I had a minor medical issue with my prostate that was completely treated. Thank God, it’s behind me,” he said in the lengthy post.

He added he opted for treatment because “when I’m given information in time about a potential danger, I want to address it immediately”.

He added: “This is true on the national level and also on the personal level”.

The news comes amid Netanyahu’s scheduled visit to the White House in the coming weeks where it is anticipated the US will negotiate their terms for a peace deal with Iran.

Meanwhile, Israel recently extended its ceasefire agreement with Lebanon by three weeks.
