Nigerian socialite and influencer Yhemolee has ignited a debate online after openly criticising men’s spending patterns in relationships, noting how some favour side companions over family obligations.
The statement, made during an interview on Wednesday, has rekindled discussions about financial priorities, cultural expectations, and filial responsibility in modern Nigerian society.
Socialite reveals spending habits.
According to Yhemolee, it is normal for men to waste considerable sums on adulterous lovers while providing little support to their mothers, who are often seen as crucial figures in Nigerian households.
He also stated that he has previously engaged in this activity, emphasising the prevalence of the practice.
“Before a man sends 100k to his mother, he go don send one side chick 5 million. Even me, I don run am. It’s not just me; you see it everywhere. Men focus on impressing women outside their homes while forgetting the very people who raised them,” he said
The issue parallels earlier conflicts in 2025, when numerous Nigerian celebrities were chastised for putting expensive lifestyle choices over family commitments.
Social observers suggest that Yhemolee’s revelation, while personal, reflects a long-standing societal concern about financial responsibility and respect for elders.
The picture went viral on X and Instagram, sparking conversations about morality, accountability, and the strain on men to balance social prestige and family responsibilities.
