Assassination Attempt: “No one can stop me” – Peter Obi reacts to warnings, confirms 2027 plans

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has stated that no one can stop him from visiting any area of Nigeria, emphasising that freedom of movement is a constitutional right for all residents.

The declaration comes in reaction to recent social media warnings and an assassination attempt in Benin City, which prompted some to suggest he avoid particular places.

Obi made the statement while visiting Peter University in Achina, Anambra State.

He emphasised that, despite identical cautions, he had previously travelled to Rivers State and accepted a previous invitation without issue.

Obi also used the occasion to reconfirm his ambition to run in the 2027 presidential election, this time under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reaffirming his commitment to Nigeria’s democratic process.

“I am not desperate to be President, but I am determined to see Nigeria work,” he said, emphasizing the need for reforms that create opportunities and strengthen institutions.”

He went on to say that his choice to switch from the Labour Party to the ADC was inspired by internal party debates and worries about how court decisions were handled, which drove him to look for a platform better suited for the next election cycle.

Obi closed by arguing for a Nigeria in which success is determined by talent and effort rather than connections.

“We want a country where the son of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” Obi said.
