“APC have no right to campaign again in Nigeria” — VDM says

A viral video by social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) has generated new political controversy, as he publicly criticises the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its early campaign activities ahead of the 2018 general elections.

In a widely circulated video, VDM advocated that the ruling party should focus on achieving results that will naturally attract popular favour rather than campaigning.

VeryDarkMan believes the APC should rely on its performance in office rather than returning to seek votes through campaigns.

APC have no right whatsoever to campaign in this country again. APC have no right to campaign,” he said.

He believes that the time between 2023 and 2027 should be spent on good governance rather than preparing for another election cycle.

You have first four years… for the people to beg you to run, not for you to come back and campaign,” he added.

The activist cited Alex Otti as an example of leadership that garners popular support through performance.

Just like Alex Oti of Abia State, they beg him… Alex Oti, you must run again,” he said.

A major part of his criticism focused on the worsening security situation across the country. He stressed that insecurity remains his primary concern, above other economic controversies.

Insecurity… that is my main problem,” he said.

He further claimed that farmers are increasingly unable to access their lands due to threats from armed groups, while referencing the spread of insurgent activities linked to Boko Haram.

Farmers cannot go to their farms. Boko Haram have taken almost everywhere in Nigeria,” he stated.

Criticism of Campaign Spending

VeryDarkMan also questioned the priorities of political leaders, accusing them of investing in campaigns rather than addressing urgent national issues.

In all of this, you have money to campaign, to put billboards everywhere,” he said.

He alleged that influencers were being recruited to mislead citizens, saying they were “preaching lies to the people.”

Call for Reflection

Ending his remarks on a reflective note, the activist urged Nigerians to rethink their choices and resist short-term incentives during elections.

Nigerians… this greed to just collect sharp, sharp,” he said, warning against vote-buying and political manipulation.
