The Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged child trafficking incident following the rescue of a female suspect, Anurika Nweme, 37, from an angry mob by Police Operatives stationed at Awada Divisional Headquarters at Divine Mercy Hospital, Eze Iweka Road, Awada, Obosi.

According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect allegedly gained access to the hospital premises disguised as a nurse on the afternoon of June 23rd and was observed making secret video recordings of newborn babies in the maternity ward.

When questioned by hospital officials and others present, Ikenga reportedly claimed to be a hospital employee. However, after verification, the Hospital’s management determined that she was not a member of its personnel.

He stated that the suspect is currently in protective custody and is assisting the investigative detectives in identifying the other parties involved.
