Siyama Idris, an 8-year-old girl, d!3d after accidentally falling onto an exposed iron rod at an ongoing road and drainage construction site in Tudun Wada quarters, Nassarawa Local Government Area, Kano State.
According to an eyewitness, Abdulrashid Yusuf, the incident occurred on Saturday, March 14, 2026, near Tudun Wada Primary School, while road reconstruction and expansion work was underway, including the construction of drainage channels.
Yusuf stated that the girl was sent to a nearby provision shop to purchase items for iftar when the tragedy occurred.
He said the drainage under construction had exposed iron rods, and there was no proper pedestrian crossing, forcing residents to use a makeshift wooden plank bridge.
“The girl, Siyama Idris, was sent to buy something at a shop for iftar,” Yusuf said.
“To cross the drainage, people normally use a gadar katako, which is just a wooden plank placed across the drainage.
He explained that while attempting to cross near the construction area, the girl accidentally fell onto an exposed iron rod used for the drainage structure.
