AFCON: “I see absolutely no wrong in what Chukwueze did” – Man blames Coach Eric Chelle for Nigeria’s defeat

Following Nigeria’s loss from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final against Morocco, a Nigerian football fan attacked Coach Eric Chelle.

In a Facebook post, a person named Isaac Etim Isaac supported winger Samuel Chukwueze, who missed a critical penalty in the shootout.

Isaac claimed that the problem was with the coach rather than the player.

Isaac alleged that Coach Chelle failed to use Chukwueze during normal and extra time, only bringing him on at the end for the penalty shootout. He suggested that this technique was poorly planned.

Read what he wrote below:

“I see absolutely no wrong in what Chukwueze did. As a coach, why should you play a whole 90 minutes without bringing him in, and then in extra time, second half almost ending, you brought him just for the purpose of penalty shootout? WTF.

“Which means you never wanted to win the match, rather you wanted a penalty shootout, and that was why you reserved Chukwueze for your stupid reason. And last last Chukwueze shoot the penalty, abii he no shoot?”

The fan’s message mirrors the rising controversy among Nigerian fans, many of whom have questioned Chelle’s tactical moves throughout the key encounter.

Chukwueze, who missed the penalty, has received criticism and encouragement from supporters on social media.

Isaac’s comments spurred discussions on Facebook and other social media platforms, with many fans agreeing with him that the coach’s late substitutions may have cost Nigeria a spot in the final.
