Chomp, a five-year-old husky and pit bull mix, killed the infant, Jason Anthony Weaver, when he was just a week old.
According to reports, the boy had severe internal injuries, including as brain haemorrhages, rib fractures, and lung rupture, in addition to wounds on his head and body.
The New York Post reports that shortly after the death in September, Weaver’s mother, father, and four other family members were taken into custody at their rural Markle, Indiana, home, which was covered in bugs and trash.
Later on, Chomp was put to death.
At first, the father of the baby was accused with two charges of negligence and one count of harbouring an unvaccinated dog that injured someone.
In exchange for a 16-year prison sentence, the highest-level negligence allegation was withdrawn in a plea agreement that was announced on Monday.
The child’s mother, Violet Weaver, has an upcoming change of plea hearing later this month.
The baby’s uncle, Tony Kinsey, and grandparents Timothy Kinsey, Rita Wickey, and Michael Wickey are still facing charges.
