A 100-level student of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, has reportedly sustained severe guπsh0t injuries following a sh00ting incident on the university campus.
The incident occurred just two days after rival cult groups allegedly engaged in an armed confrontation on the premises, heightening security concerns among students and staff.
The earlier clash was reportedly linked to a supremacy dispute involving suspected members of the Vikings and Ku Klux Klan cult groups.
Following Wednesday’s sh00ting, the injured student was rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel reportedly prepared for emergency surgery to remove bullet pellets lodged in his body.
A source familiar with the development said fellow students were contributing money to help cover the cost of the surgery.
“His close friends were contributing money to raise funds for the surgery to happen.”
The Rivers State Police Command had previously confirmed an investigation into the earlier cult clash through its spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, while authorities continue to gather information on the latest shooting.
University Suspends SUG Week Activities
Amid the growing tension, the university management suspended all remaining activities scheduled for the Students’ Union Government Week.
In an official bulletin, the institution’s Registrar, Dr Chinonye Ajie, directed students to immediately suspend the festivities and return to their academic activities.
“This is to inform the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Community that all remaining activities for the Students’ Union Government Week have been suspended by the University Management with immediate effect.”
The university also warned students that normal academic activities must continue and that those who fail to attend lectures would be held accountable for their absence.
“Students are therefore advised to return to classes on Thursday, August 13th, 2026, for normal academic activities.”
The latest incident has further heightened concerns over safety on the campus, with students and staff awaiting more information from security authorities.
