A 23-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School, Faith Ajoke Alayande, who reportedly d!ed after allegedly falling from the rooftop of a four-storey hostel building at the institution’s campus in Victoria Island, Lagos, had shared an upbeat video expressing excitement about her journey to becoming a lawyer.
Alayande was reportedly found d3ad within the hostel premises on Friday, August 7, 2026, after another student alerted the Chief Matron of the institution.
Days before her d3ath, Alayande posted a video on Instagram showing her smiling as she strolled along an empty road. The video was captioned:
“86 days to Bar Finals 100%”
She also described herself as a “Lawyer in training.”
The post has since attracted attention online, particularly because it appeared to show the student looking forward to completing her legal education and becoming a lawyer.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the Chief Matron, Mrs. Igbokwe Juliana, reported the incident at the Victoria Island Police Division at about 6:30 a.m.
The police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident, saying the deceased was found unresponsive within the hostel premises.
According to the PPRO, the matron reported the matter after another student and a relative reportedly discovered a note allegedly written by Alayande and began searching for her.
Adebisi said:
“I can confirm the incident. The deceased reportedly wrote a su!c!de note and, before her hostel mate and a relative could locate her, she jumped from the rooftop of a four-storey building.”
She added:
“The matron of the hostel reported the incident, prompting police operatives to visit the scene. Her body has been evacuated to a morgue for preservation.”
The police said an investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s d3ath.
The incident has left fellow students, friends and members of the public deeply saddened, particularly following the emergence of the video showing Alayande appearing cheerful and optimistic about her upcoming Bar Finals.
