Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has stirred new political debate with a forceful remark about Nigeria’s 2027 general election.
According to her, she will not support any political ticket that includes former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as a running partner.
Speaking plainly, read what Yesufu said below:
“If Peter Obi becomes a running mate to anyone in 2027, I will work against that ticket in my little capacity.”
The activist, who was particularly vocal during the 2023 general elections, explained that she has noticed a recurring pattern in Nigerian politics in which the most competent candidates are frequently pushed to secondary roles while less capable individuals are chosen as presidential flag bearers.
Her words have sparked great interest, particularly among Nigerians who still see Obi as a leading political figure rather than a secondary alternative in future electoral procedures.
Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, has remained central to speculations about the 2027 election.
Political discussions have been more heated due to his alleged affiliation with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after leaving the Labour Party.
The number of candidates apparently vying for the ADC’s presidential candidature is reportedly increasing, with prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Obi all connected to 2027 aspirations.
Yesufu made it obvious that she would not support any political arrangement that excludes Peter Obi in the upcoming general election, even though she did not provide any other explanation.
