Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has given an explanation for his resolve to back President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign.
If Tinubu loses the election to either Peter Obi or former Vise President Atiku Abubakar, Wike said he thinks he would be one of the first politicians targeted.
The minister made the comments while talking about his ongoing support for Tinubu during a media conference in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
Wike claimed that opposition politicians have made him a prime target because of his overt support for the President.
“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” he said.
The former governor of Rivers State stated that he was fully aware of the political risks involved in his choice to back Tinubu.
He maintained, nonetheless, that he would not be deterred by opposition or criticism from those opposed to the President’s reelection.
Wike stated that despite any potential personal repercussions, Tinubu’s triumph is still his top political priority.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he stated.
Additionally, Wike brushed off criticism regarding his association with Tinubu and his choice to back the President.
He claimed that because of his political stance, he had received harsh criticism and derogatory remarks.
“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their [own] thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President,” he declared.
The minister insisted that he would keep working for Tinubu’s election in 2027 and that he had no remorse about his political position.
