Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, has received acclaim from Apostle Johnson Suleman, who has described him as evidence that Nigeria can achieve effective government.

During a Sunday sermon, the clergyman made the statement while discussing Otti’s administration and the improvements he thinks the governor has made to Abia State.

Suleman urged Nigerians to consider what the governor is doing in the state, claiming that Otti’s success might get him a second term in office without the need for intensive campaigning.

“Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, is proof that good governance is possible. He can easily win a second term without much campaigning. Look at what the man is doing in Abia State. This is an example that anyone in politics who is not making an impact is doing so by deliberate choice.”

Suleman’s remarks coincide with Otti’s continuation of his first term as governor following his victory on the Labour Party platform in the 2023 Abia State governorship election.

Since taking office on May 29, 2023, Otti and his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, have concentrated their administration on infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other aspects of governance.

Suleman’s comments have garnered attention due to his favourable evaluation of Otti’s leadership and his hypothesis that politicians who don’t leave a lasting impression while in power might be doing it on purpose.

Prior to the general elections in 2027, the cleric’s remarks also contribute to the expanding public debate about Otti’s administration and its performance in Abia State.
