According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, May 16, 2026, member of the House of Representatives for Kaduna North Federal Constituency, Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, has accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of violating the constitutional rights of his father, former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, during what he described as his ongoing interaction with the agency.
In a statement shared on his verified Facebook page, El-Rufai alleged that his family had witnessed “two distinct yet serious violations” of his father’s fundamental rights, insisting that all constitutional protections due to a citizen must be fully upheld regardless of circumstance.
According to him, the first incident involved the former governor’s personal doctor, who reportedly visited the ICPC facility around 3pm to discuss the results of medical tests conducted on El-Rufai. However, he claimed that officials at the commission prevented the doctor from seeing his father, stating that access could only be granted with written approval from the ICPC Chairman.
El-Rufai said the restriction was in direct contradiction to a court order allegedly granting his father unrestricted access to his medical practitioners. He argued that denying such access amounted to a breach of both legal and humanitarian standards, particularly in matters relating to health and medical care.
The lawmaker further alleged that a second incident occurred later in the evening when his father’s wife, identified as Aunty Aichatou, attempted to deliver food to him at about 7pm, as is reportedly customary. According to El-Rufai, ICPC personnel turned her away, citing an internal directive prohibiting food deliveries after 6:30pm.
He described the alleged restriction as arbitrary and unlawful, arguing that no detention or investigative procedure justifies denying an individual access to medical care or basic family support. He maintained that such actions, in his view, amount to intimidation and a disregard for constitutional protections.
“These arbitrary rules are outright assaults on the rule of law and a clear violation of their father’s constitutional and human rights,” he said in the statement.
El-Rufai insisted that the ICPC must operate strictly within the bounds of the law and respect court directives, adding that enforcement agencies are also subject to legal constraints and due process requirements.
He further called for full respect of what he described as his father’s constitutional rights, warning that the family would no longer tolerate what he termed “a pattern of intimidation dressed up as protocol.”
“We demand that all his constitutional rights be fully respected. We will no longer accept this pattern of intimidation dressed up as protocol,” he stated.
