A Nigerian widow, Enwongo Akpan, has called out a Facebook user, identified as Prince Levite, over an alleged suggestion that she should not be happy following the d3ath of her husband.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, September 17, 2026, Enwongo rejected the idea that widowhood should prevent her from living her life or finding happiness.

She stressed that while she continues to grieve and honour her late husband’s memory, she retains the right to live, smile and pursue happiness.

‘You don’t get to turn my widowhood into a punishment’

Addressing Prince Levite, she wrote:

“Anyone that knows this 2 minutes man should tell him to avoid me,” she wrote.

“Prince Levite you claim to be who’s friend?

You don’t get to decide how a widow is supposed to live, laugh or find happiness.

I lost my husband; I did not lose my right to live.

If my happiness offends you, that is something you need to examine within yourself, not something I need to apologize for.

And honestly, using someone’s grief as a weapon says far more about your character than it ever will about mine.

“My husband died. My life didn’t.I will grieve him, miss him, honour his memory and still have every right to smile and be happy.

You don’t get to turn my widowhood into a punishment.

D3ath na rain, e dey fall for every roof. I’m glad you have a wife at home.

And the fact that you chose someone’s greatest pain as a weapon tells me everything. I need to know about you.

I pray you will experience the kind of loss that teaches you why those words were cruel. Keep crying be fine.”

Enwongo’s post has sparked conversations about widowhood, grief, societal expectations and the right of bereaved spouses to rebuild their lives after losing their partners.
