Woman lays claim to abandoned baby rescued by man whom authorities allegedly now claim is the government’s child.

The baby that was discovered abandoned in a forest in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has been claimed by a woman.

As you may remember, LIB reported yesterday that locals had rescued a newborn infant with the placenta still attached. After the police officers who handled the situation failed to attempt to claim the baby, a local guy agreed to fund the child’s medical expenses.

Mr. Okorom Ofuma then exclaimed that the infant had been saved from the brink of death after he had paid for the infant’s oxygen, incubator stay, and other medical bills. He then made the decision to start the official adoption procedure.

He said, however, that authorities told him the infant was the government’s child and prevented him from adopting the daughter.

After reading the original article on LIB’s website, a woman has now contacted LIB to claim the child as her own.

Today, February 26, she posted a video of herself demonstrating against the Port Harcourt hospital where she gave birth.

She said that after the hospital misled her about her child’s death, she was able to visit her child online.

The woman, Naomi, described the pregnancy-related issues that caused her to switch hospitals on the day of delivery in a lengthy conversation with LIB.

Naomi stated that they chose to perform surgery at the new hospital (which will not be named for the time being because it has not been confirmed that the charges against the hospital are real), and she gave her consent.

Her landlady accompanied her to the hospital as she was an orphan with no living relatives.

She claimed that after the kid was born via CS, they took it away and that she was unable to see it or determine its gender. She claims that although the initial scan she had indicated she was expecting a girl, the subsequent scan revealed a boy, leading her to believe she had a son.

On May 9, 2025, she says her landlady informed her that the baby had not survived surgery. The hospital officials informed her that the infant was alive and receiving medical attention when she challenged them. After that, a sedative was administered to her, rendering her unconscious.
