The Rivers State Police Command has arrested some staff members of a hotel in Port Harcourt, alongside friends of a deceased guest, in connection with the d3ath of a man identified as Okorite Charles.
Charles, who was reportedly in his mid-20s, allegedly d!ed under mysterious circumstances after lodging at the hotel with some friends.
Following the incident, the police earlier shut down the hotel’s operations to allow for a proper investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Agabe Blessing Karbolo, said the deceased was allegedly pushed from an upper floor of the hotel, although the circumstances surrounding the incident had yet to be established.
According to her, Charles was immediately rushed to a hospital, where a medical doctor reportedly confirmed him d3ad.
Karbolo explained that the deceased’s friends later arrived at the hotel and began protesting, attracting a crowd and creating concerns about a possible breakdown of law and order.
She said:
“The victim’s friends came to the hotel and commenced a protest, which attracted a crowd and threatened to disrupt the peace of the area.
“Upon receipt of the information, police operatives promptly mobilised to the scene and successfully brought the situation under control, preventing further breakdown of law and order.
“The hotel staff on duty at the time of the incident, as well as the victim’s friends who were present with him, were arrested for questioning and investigation into the circumstances surrounding the d3ath.”
The police spokesperson added that operations at the hotel had been temporarily restricted pending the outcome of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s brother, Mr Obomate, had earlier raised additional concerns about the circumstances surrounding Charles’ d3ath.
According to him, a doctor at the hospital where Charles was taken reportedly observed what appeared to be a st@b wound on his stomach.
He also alleged that the family suspected that an object may have been used to strike the deceased on the neck.
The police investigation is ongoing to determine what led to Charles’ d3ath and whether anyone will face further charges.
