Heavy rainfall in Abuja over the weekend reportedly triggered severe flooding across several parts of the Federal Capital Territory, leaving numerous vehicles, including luxury cars, submerged in floodwater.

The flooding also affected major roads, with some routes reportedly rendered inaccessible as residents struggled to navigate the affected areas.

Deji Adeyanju Blames Wike

Reacting to the situation, activist and FCT resident Deji Adeyanju criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, blaming his administration for what he described as unprecedented flooding in Abuja.

In a post shared online, Adeyanju alleged that poor urban planning and the allocation of waterways for development had contributed to the flooding.

“Wike has destroyed Abuja. The town is stinking and flooded. I have never seen this kind of complete lunacy and greed before. Maitama and most parts of Abuja now flooded because of one man’s greed. How do you allocate canals and waterways to politicians to build estates on it?” he wrote.

His comments have generated reactions online, with residents and social media users debating the causes of the flooding, including drainage infrastructure, urban development and the alleged encroachment on waterways.
