Seun Kuti, an afrobeat musician, has clarified the ongoing controversy surrounding activist Omoyele Sowore and billionaire BLord, noting that Sowore’s actions were not intended to defend anyone.
In a viral live session spreading online, he said that the fundamental issue was the behaviour of the Nigerian police, accusing them of allegedly taking sides in disputes involving powerful persons rather than remaining neutral.
“Sowore wasn’t fighting for BLord. He was fighting the Nigerian police to stop taking sides when two celebrities are fighting and using power to favour one person over the other. Sowore wasn’t fighting for BLord, he was fighting the Nigerian police,” he said.
Seun Kuti went on to say that the situation extends beyond the individuals involved, emphasising that such misuse of power may impact anyone and represents a larger issue inside the system.
He also stated that there is a bigger war for fairness in the country and that he would oppose any attempt to transform allies into foes in the fight for justice.
It should be noted that businessman BLord was arrested and held following a case made by social media critic VeryDarkMan.
BLord’s legal issues began when he was accused of criminal conspiracy, impersonation, and unauthorised use of identity.
A Federal High Court in Abuja subsequently ordered his confinement to the Kuje Correctional Centre for further proceedings.
However, Sowore decried the outcome, describing it as oppression rather than a triumph of legal brilliance or advocacy, and eventually intervened to secure his release.
