Why I Don’t Judge Women Involved in ‘Runs’ — Shaffy Bello

Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has said she does not condemn women involved in transactional relationships, popularly referred to as “runs,” but advised them not to make such a lifestyle permanent.

The actress made the remarks during an interview on The Morayo Show hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown, where she spoke about economic hardship, social media pressure and the realities facing many young women.

‘I understand, I don’t judge’

According to Bello, many young women are forced into difficult situations by harsh economic realities and family responsibilities, making empathy more important than criticism.

She noted that some women engage in transactional relationships to survive, support their parents or sponsor the education of younger siblings.

“And if what you’re doing now is being a runs girl to make money, you don’t have to stay there. I understand it. I’m not knocking you. I never judge,” she said.

Despite expressing understanding, Bello encouraged young women to recognise their self-worth beyond social media validation and survival choices.

She stressed that beauty and success should not be defined by revealing content or the pursuit of online attention.

“There are too many young people who need to hear that what they sow matters. You don’t have to show your body to be sexy, and you don’t have to chase virality to be noticed,” she stated.

Reflecting on her career, Bello said acting remains her true passion and not merely a source of income.

She added that not every actor must become a producer, explaining that she is more interested in using her platform and voice to make meaningful impact.

Her comments have since generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians debating the effects of economic hardship, online culture and the challenges confronting young women in society.
