A social media user described how a lady’s engagement ended and then developed into recurrent family interventions after she was unable to attend her father-in-law’s funeral owing to work restrictions, resulting in the cancellation of her wedding and ongoing disagreements.

The woman told her story, revealing that her wedding was originally slated for March but was cancelled due to a family bereavement and employment restrictions that prohibited her from travelling.

According to her account, her father-in-law died in November and was buried in December, just a few weeks later.

She stated that she sincerely wanted to attend the funeral but was unable to secure leave from her company due to rigorous operational procedures.

“I was unable to secure leave from my employer,” she stated, adding that the notice period was too short and her job contract restricted leave during peak periods.

She went on to say that she notified her fiancé about the situation and donated monetarily to the burial arrangements. Initially, she claimed, he appeared to comprehend her situation.

However, the scenario apparently altered once she received a call from her mother-in-law.

The woman said her mother-in-law suggested she attend the burial if she truly wanted to join the family.

“She told me that if I truly wanted to be part of their family, I had to be present at her husband’s funeral,” she said, adding that her explanation was abruptly dismissed during the call.

Shortly after, her fiancé allegedly confronted her, questioning her absence and drawing parallels to a hypothetical case involving her own father.

“if it were my father, wouldn’t you find a way to attend?” he asked, according to her account.

She explained that her circumstances differed due to employment restrictions. She claimed that this was when the relationship changed dramatically.

“That was when he said the words that changed everything, he said no presence, no wedding.”

The woman added that she initially felt her fiancé was speaking out of grief, but the wedding cancellation was later confirmed.

Despite attempts by her relatives to intervene, she stated that the relationship could not be saved.

“My family attempted to intervene, but every effort was shut down,” she said, adding that her father eventually advised her to move on.
