A Nigerian lawyer has generated outrage online after admitting that a woman seeking to formally end her marriage asked her husband if he could continue paying her younger sister’s school tuition after they divorced.

The lawyer, known as @ChisomAgbafor on X (previously Twitter), posted the unexpected request on her page, expressing amazement at the woman’s expectations.

According to the lawyer, the woman wanted legal guidance on whether her husband could be forced to continue supporting her sister’s schooling after the marriage was dissolved.

“You want to legally end your marriage, and you’re asking me if your husband can continue paying the school fees of your sister who is in 300 level,” she wrote.

The attorney clarified that the woman was particularly curious about whether there was a way to legally guarantee her husband would continue to cover the costs until her sister finished her last year.

The attorney also disclosed that the woman wanted to know if she could legally convince her husband to continue providing financial support for her sister following the divorce.

“You want to know whether I can legally persuade him to pay for her final year even after the divorce,” she stated.

The lawyer seemed amused by the request and wondered where some women were receiving such expectations.

“Where are you people finding this type of wives? 😭” she wrote.

Since then, individuals on X have responded to the lawyer’s post with varying opinions regarding the woman’s request and whether or not a divorced spouse should continue to cover his ex-wife’s sister’s tuition.
