A Nigerian man has stirred widespread reactions online after sharing his experience with a pastor he accused of repeatedly demanding money under the guise of spiritual support.
The man, who posted on X (formerly Twitter), claimed the pastor began requesting financial assistance shortly after he relocated to the United Kingdom.
According to his post, he initially sent money willingly, believing he was supporting a spiritual leader.
However, the situation reportedly changed when he could no longer afford to give due to personal financial commitments.
The man explained that he informed the pastor about his financial struggles, particularly his intention to save money to purchase a car.
He said he expected understanding but was surprised when the pastor reached out again days later requesting more money.
“I thought he understood me, only for him to message me days later for another billing,” he wrote.
The situation escalated when the pastor allegedly justified his request by claiming he had been offering prayers and making spiritual sacrifices on the man’s behalf.
“His response was that he has been supporting me with prayers since I left Nigeria and asked if I knew how many mountains he had climbed because of my matter,” the man recounted.
Frustrated by the response, the man said he firmly rejected the request, attributing his progress to his parents’ prayers instead. He added that he subsequently blocked the pastor across all communication platforms.
