A Nigerian woman has sparked conversations online after expressing frustration with people who repeatedly pressure her to have more children despite her decision to stop giving birth.
The woman, who already has a son, voiced her displeasure in a viral video, calling out individuals who make unsolicited remarks about her family size whenever they meet her.
According to her, some women frequently ask when she plans to have another child. However, when she tells them she is no longer interested in having more children, they urge her to rebuke the decision.
Questioning why people feel entitled to dictate her reproductive choices, she insisted that her decision should be respected.
In her words:
“This video is for those women that would pressure women to give birth. I have a son, and you see me and be asking me stupid questions.
“When am I going to give birth to another one? And when I tell you that I’m not interested again, I don’t want to give birth again, you’ll be asking me to rebuke it.
“Are you mad? What do you mean I should rebuke it? You saw me, we greeted. Is that not enough? What concerns my own marital life or my life with you?”
She further questioned why people assume they know what is best for her, maintaining that the decision to have another child should be left entirely to her and her family.
The woman also criticised those who pressure others to expand their families without considering the responsibilities and challenges that come with raising children.
She warned that she might be accused of disrespect if she eventually loses her patience and responds harshly to people who make such comments.
“Na small thing dey make me vex. If I start to insult una now, una go say I no get respect for elders. I dey my dey, una go dey bring rubbish talk up,” she added.
Her outburst has reignited conversations about family planning, personal boundaries and the pressure some women face from relatives and members of society over the number of children they should have.
