A Nigerian woman has expressed her outrage on social media following an alleged request for Apple AirPods as a gift from a man she rejected for a romantic relationship.

The woman, who went by the handle @Nsemeke_ on X, formerly known as Twitter, described how the man allegedly went from asking to be friends to asking for a costly gift from her.

The woman disclosed that she had initially told the man that she had no interest in dating him.

She claims that she accepted the man’s suggestion that they stay friends.

“I told you I wasn’t interested in a relationship.

“You said we could just be friends. I didn’t block you.

“You started calling, I had no problem with that,” she wrote.

She clarified that she didn’t mind keeping up the friendship and even assisted him when he later claimed to have no data.

The young woman claimed that after that, the man asked her to subscribe on his behalf because he lacked data, and she consented.

“Then you said you had no data and asked me to subscribe for you. I did,” she stated.

She reportedly congratulated him on passing an exam a few days later.

She did, however, say that she was taken aback by his response to her congratulations.

According to the woman, the man asked her what she planned to give him in exchange for passing the test.

“Few days later you passed an exam, I congratulated you like a good friend. Next message? You’re telling me what to gift you for smashing it,” she wrote.

She said he later called to remind her about the gift, but at first she thought he was kidding.

“I thought you were joking. You called to remind me. I played along and you foolishly said Apple AirPods,” she stated.

The woman expressed shock at the request, pointing out that they hadn’t met in person and weren’t dating.

She added that despite their interactions, she had never asked him for anything.

“It’s not your birthday. I’m not your girlfriend, we’ve never seen each other and I have never asked you for anything,” she wrote.

The man allegedly went so far as to recommend that the AirPods be bought from outside the nation.

“You even had the nerve to say we should buy it outside the country,” she added.
