“We’re not happy…” — Lagos Imams warn Nigerians over US-Israel-Iran conflict

The Lagos State League of Imams has cautioned Nigerians to avoid protests that could disrupt the peace, emphasising the importance of prayer and thought during this time.

The request comes amid demonstrations in many regions of the country, including Lagos, in response to recent US-Israeli assaults on Iran, which reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, and exacerbated international tension.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Ahmad, Chief Missioner of the Ansarudeen Society, gave the message on the guild’s behalf at the 2026 Ramadan Tafsir programme on Tuesday evening at Lagos House in Ikeja.

Ahmad stressed that religious holidays such as Ramadan and Lent should be used to pray for peace and stability in Lagos and throughout Nigeria.

He urged against participating in protests without comprehending the repercussions, stating that such acts could result in senseless violence.

This is a time for prayer, a time to be part of peace, this is not a time for protest and demonstration. This is not a time for insults. This is not a time for upheavals. It is a time of sober reflection,” he said.

Ahmad highlighted Nigeria’s vulnerability to global crises, citing potential economic repercussions such as increased fuel prices, and warned that societal instability might exacerbate these difficulties.

We are not happy that our brothers and fellow human beings have been attacked on a daily basis, but if we cannot be part of the solution, we should not be part of the problem. Don’t join a protest that you don’t understand. Remember the lessons from #EndSARS. Don’t cause disruption”, he added.

Ahmad urged all clerics to use their platforms to preach against instability and citizens to choose peace, allowing harmony to blossom throughout the country.
