“We lead and they follow” – Netizens react as Nigerian soldier shares video with US Army team

Reactions have trailed a video of a Nigerian soldier taking a video selfie with a US military unit that recently arrived in the nation to assist in combating the insurgency. Recall that on February 3, 2026, U.S.

Africa Command (AFRICOM) reported that a “small team” of US military personnel had been deployed to Nigeria.

This was the first public recognition of American forces operating on the ground in some years.

In a video published to X by a netizen known as @Pressman2040, a Nigerian soldier was seen taking a video selfie with some of the American soldiers who had recently arrived in the nation.

@Pressman2040 captioned…

“We lead and they follow.

For the Love of 🇳🇬🇳🇬Nigeria and her citizens.

@lionel_nyam said: ““We lead & they follow”

I no understand”

@Pressman2040 replied: “On ground we know the terrain, theirs is to assist with Intelligence while we move and neutralise them ASAP”

@EkeminiUmoh20 asked: “Is it true US army are in Nigeria”

@Pressman2040 reacted: “Yeah in small number to help in intelligence gathering”

@Youngman147 opined: “I don’t really believe in this US team, the US only sends support when they see that a country is sustaining the offensive and is having an upper hand, then they jump in and claim the glory when victory comes, if the reverse is the case they accuse the country of sabotage”
