A group of Nigerian law students has publicly apologised following backlash over their viral TikTok video, confirming that they have deleted it and taken responsibility for the controversy.
In an apology video, the students said they never intended to mock the legal profession or portray young lawyers as unable to represent clients in court.
They apologised to the public, the Council of Legal Education, their faculty’s disciplinary body, and other relevant authorities over the video and its effect on the perception of the legal profession.
The students also emphasised that they hold the profession in high esteem, noting that many of them had always dreamed of becoming lawyers and had worked hard to achieve that goal.
They further commended their lecturers for instilling strong moral values in them, insisting that the video was not meant to undermine the profession or the training they received.
“We have taken down the video and we have taken full responsibility,” they said as they appealed for forgiveness.
