“We for don go far” — Nigerian Lady Questions Mother for Not Marrying a Wealthy Man

A Nigerian lady has sparked reactions on social media after revealing that she questioned her mother about her past marriage choices, suggesting that their family might have enjoyed a better life if her mother had married a wealthy man.

In a video shared on X, formerly Twitter, the lady said she recently told her mother that marrying a financially stable man in the 1990s could have changed their family’s circumstances and potentially given them the opportunity to live in countries such as the United Kingdom or the United States.

Describing her mother as a beautiful woman, she argued that her mother could have chosen a wealthy partner and created better opportunities for her children.

‘We Could Have Been Living Like Chill Kids’

The lady said she believed her strong work ethic would have taken her further if she had grown up in a country with better economic opportunities.

She suggested that her mother’s relationship decisions might have influenced the opportunities available to her and questioned why she was expected to follow a similar path.

“I was telling my mum recently that if she was a gold digger in the 90s, when she was getting married and doing O show for free, do you know that by now we’d probably be in the UK or the US, living like chill kids?

“Because I’m such a hard worker. If I was working this hard in a first-world country, I would have gone far. People who know me know that I’m very serious with my life.

“My mother is pretty. We for don go far. Now, I’m asking her, why do you want me to do the same thing you did? Do you want me to suffer?”

Her Remarks Spark Conversations About Marriage and Financial Security

Her comments have drawn attention to discussions about financial stability, partner selection and the role marriage can play in shaping a family’s economic circumstances.

The remarks have also raised questions about whether parents’ relationship decisions can affect the opportunities available to their children, particularly in families where financial resources are limited.

Her account reflects a broader debate about the balance between love, financial security and personal ambition when choosing a life partner.
